Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva, Moscow, February 26, 2018

Mr Minister,

Friends,

We are happy to welcome you in Moscow. This is already your second visit in the past 18 months. We also met on the sidelines of various events, including international events, and at the UN General Assembly session. I am happy to have this opportunity to continue our productive and trustful dialogue. Portugal is our longtime partner among the European Union’s member states. We support and share your desire to expand bilateral cooperation in every way.

We note the mutual interest in resuming inter-parliamentary contacts, with due consideration for changes at the Assembly of the Republic. We are satisfied with regular consultations between our ministries, and we consider this to be a very useful form of work that makes it possible to heed each other’s positions during discussions of various international issues.

We have many promising plans in the area of expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation. We would like to boost tourism between our countries, as well as overall cultural cooperation. I hope that we will review all these issues today, together with matters on the international agenda.

Welcome once again!
