Situação na Ucrânia
Following negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine and the situation around Syria, the Russian President made a statement for the press.
The heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics have issued a statement on a unilateral ceasefire starting at 12 am on September 15, under which all people’s militia units in Donetsk and Lugansk are prohibited from responding to fire from the Ukrainian army and the National Guard.
On September 1, the Contact Group held a meeting in a video conference format with representatives from Donbass, the Joint Coordination and Control Centre, and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to review the results of an earlier ceasefire agreement achieved by the sides in connection with the start of the new academic year.
Meeting participants reviewed the consistent decline in the number of ceasefire violations starting on August 28 and the lack of violations on September 1 as of noon MMT.
Recently tensions have been escalating along the line of contact of the conflicting sides in southeastern Ukraine. Media are reporting more frequent shelling of settlements and casualties among Donbass civilians.
That’s more specific. We operate on the premise that the Ukrainians are our close neighbours and a brotherly nation. We want the people who live next to our borders and who we are well disposed to, to live well. In order for this to happen, Ukraine must remain united.
This was a long and productive meeting, where we discussed the progress made with executing the Minsk agreements. Although there were a lot of contradictory ideas, we eventually managed to reaffirm the pure principles agreed between the Normandy Four leaders in Minsk on February 12.
